STOPPING SEX TRAFFICKING AND MODERN DAY SLAVERY

Including Awareness, Prevention, Rescue/Intervention, Prosecution, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners”

Isaiah 61:1

BIBLICAL CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW ON SEX TRAFFICKING AND MODERN DAY SLAVERY

Every girl and boy, man and woman, is made in God’s image (Gen 1:27). Human trafficking and modern slavery are among the most heinous and disgusting evils in human history because they directly assault the image of God in other humans, stealing their human dignity. And this is especially severe in sex-trafficking, given its shameful exploitation of the most intimate and sacred parts of another human’s body (his or her sex organs).

Sex trafficking (ST) is a specific subset of human trafficking (HT). Sex Trafficking and Human Trafficking are types of modern-day slavery, in which individuals are exploited and forced into sexual servitude or labor against their will. All HT involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain or maintain control over another person for the purpose of exploitation, for the financial gain of his/her captors.

Advocacy against Sex Trafficking & Human Trafficking means we need to do all we can to bring awareness to communities to protect children and adults from being trafficked, while also rescuing and rehabilitating them. It also means we should help support, write and enforce laws to protect girls, boys, and adults from being trafficked. This should include laws that require bringing to justice not only oppressors and exploiters, but also consumers paying for victims’ “services” (e.g., consider the Nordic model, going after the “johns,” as advancing this approach).

In today’s society, it is also very important to look at root causes of Human Trafficking. In Sex Trafficking, the root causes include the promotion of illicit sex and sexual grooming of children, including through attempts to normalize pedophilia, pornography and other vile things (drag shows and vulgar pride parades with naked people parading in front ot families and kids, etc.). Opposing these is being a voice for the voiceless. “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy” Proverbs 31:8-9.
