A sound biblical worldview supports the protection of innocent human life from conception to the grave. Scripture teaches that life begins at conception, meaning a human person (not just a human ‘life’) exists at the time of conception. Several Scriptures support this view. See Psalm 139 (above, where David describes how God knit him together in his mother’s womb); Jer 1:5 (Jeremiah, known by God, even before his conception); Is 49:1 (same for Isaiah); Jer 20:17 (ref. to personhood). Intellectually serious abortion supporters today no longer argue abortion isn’t killing innocent human life – they admit it does (it’s basic medical science anyway). Instead, they support abortion using arguments such as the fetus lacks personhood, or self-awareness, or it’s a burden the mother should not have to bear. But these arguments fall flat against the instruction of Scripture and correct insights flowing from it. And the same sound reasoning applies to people in comas and vegetative states.

Since abortion proponents have failed to pinpoint a time in the womb when a human life (‘being’) becomes an actual human “person” (as if such a distinction is valid in the first place, and it isn’t), all doubts must be resolved in favor of life starting at the earliest possible moment, at conception (the Scriptural view). Since life begins at conception, we need to protect innocent human life from start to end.

Unfortunately, many people today who lack a biblical worldview in this area decide to abort their baby, thinking it is the best possible outcome. As Christians, we need to help moms during their pregnancies to bring their babies to full term, as many pregnancy centers and advocacy groups are currently doing. Additionally, adoption is an important alternative to abortion.
